This set brings together the works of three Roman poets from the first and second centuries CE. Whereas Martial (trans. by Barié/Schindler) primarily describes the everyday lives of Romans in his epigrams, Persius (trans. by Holzberg) prefers philosophical themes. Juvenal (trans. by Lorenz) also voices his critique of the social conditions of the day by addressing topics that provide insights into everyday Roman life.
