Dr Stefan Giesen
Stefan Giesen holds a PhD in Economics (Technical University of Dortmund). He started his career in the publishing industry in 2011 as Acquisitions Editor at De Gruyter's imprint Oldenbourg Verlag in Munich. Today, he is Editorial Director and responsible for the Business and Economics book program at De Gruyter.
Steve Hardman
Steve Hardman joined De Gruyter in 2017 having worked previously for Wiley for many years in both sales and editorial roles. He has worked as an editor and publisher of business books for almost thirty years. Steve has published scholarly books, textbooks, and books for the professional market and, during his career, has published a number of market-leading titles.

About our editors
Dr Serena Pirrotta
Serena Pirrotta studied Classical Studies in Rome and Oxford before receiving a PhD in Greek Philology from the Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg with a thesis on the fragments of Plato Comicus. Before joining De Gruyter in 2012 as Head of the Classics department, she worked as Editorial Manager for the research project SAPERE at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities. She commissions books and series in Ancient Philosophy, the transmission of ancient texts, and Reception Studies.
Dr. Mirko Vonderstein
Mirko Vonderstein studied Classical Archaeology, Ancient Greek Philology and Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, and holds a PhD in Classical Archaeology. After several years of work in the museum sector and as freelance editor, he joined De Gruyter in 2011. As Senior Acquisitions Editor for the Classical Studies Department he curates the program in Ancient History, Byzantine Studies, Classical Archaeology, Egyptology, Epigraphy and Papyrology.
Dr. Torben Behm
Torben Behm studied Latin Philology and Mathematics, and holds a PhD in Classical Philology. He joined De Gruyter in 2018. As Acquisitions Editor for the Classical Studies Department, his portfolio focuses on critical editions and commentaries on Ancient Greek and Roman Literature.
Dr. Carlo Vessella
Carlo Vessella holds a PhD in Ancient Greek Philology/Historical Linguistics (Sapienza University, Rome). Before joining De Gruyter as an Acquisitions Editor in 2021, he held teaching and research positions at the University of Glasgow and Harvard - and he also published a book with us (2018). He is responsible for the English-language list in Classical Studies: his portfolio ranges from Ancient Greek and Roman literature and its reception to Greek and Latin linguistics and textual criticism, including ancient social history, history of scholarship, ancient medicine, queer and post/decolonial studies.

Anne Sokoll studied German Philology, Media Studies and Political Sciences as well as German as a foreign/second language at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She heads one of the youngest imprints of the De Gruyter publishing group – düsseldorf university press (d|u|p), with focus on publishing research results of scholars from the Düsseldorf campus. Anne is also part of the editorial teams “Literary and Cultural Studies” and “Modern Languages”.

Ulrike Krauß studied German Literature and Romance Studies at the University of Tübingen and Sorbonne University (Paris IV), and holds a PhD in Modern Languages. She started as an Acquisitions Editor for Max Niemeyer Verlag back in 2001. In 2013, she joined De Gruyter and is currently head of department for Modern Languages. Ulrike curates the program in English and American Studies, Romance Studies and Mediterranean Studies, subject areas that have lost none of their fascination for her even after 20 years in academic publishing.
Dr. Svetoslava Antonova Baumann
Svetoslava Antonova Baumann holds a PhD in Empirical Linguistics from Northumbria University in the UK and worked in research funding and research policy, before joining De Gruyter as an acquisitions editor for Germanic Linguistics. Svetoslava’s portfolio includes books, book series, journals and databases on Germanic Linguistics, Empirical Linguistics, Colonial Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Historical Linguistics, Lexicology, Minority Languages, and Formulaic Language, amongst others.

Sophie Wagenhofer is a historian and museologist with a special interest in the Middle East and North Africa. After working five years as research fellow at Humboldt University in Berlin, she joined De Gruyter in 2013. For almost ten years she was responsible for the program in Jewish and Islamic studies before taking over as head of the department for both History and Library and Information Science. She curates the program in German and European History.
Rabea Rittgerodt
Rabea Rittgerodt has worked on kinship networks in the late 19th century, focusing on the British, Prussian and Russian monarchy. She started working at De Gruyter in 2014, and has worked on developing and commissioning new fields and innovative research projects, always in close cooperation with the scholarly community. Rabea loves working with first-time authors/early career researchers and particularly enjoys traveling to conferences and meeting historians face-to-face.
Dr. Julia Brauch
Julia Brauch studied in Marburg, Jerusalem, and Berlin and holds a PhD in Political Sciences. Birgit Sievert
Birgit Sievert was appointed Editorial Director Mouton in October 2018. She is responsible for developing relationships with linguists and scholarly institutions worldwide, ensuring the academic book program Linguistics grows and addresses the needs of the Linguistics community. She manages an international team with offices in Berlin and New York. Birgit joined De Gruyter Mouton in 2000 as editor with a remit to establish profitability and stability for classic Mouton monograph series and A-ranked journals. She is a trained linguist with a masters degree in Historical Linguistics and extensive commissioning experience in all classic and emerging subfields, including Theoretical Syntax, Typology, and Language Contact. Having previously lived in England, Birgit is now based in Berlin.
Dr. Natalie Fecher
Natalie Fecher holds a PhD in Linguistics (University of York, UK), an MA in Phonetics (LMU Munich, Germany), and she also did postdoctoral research in a developmental psychology lab at the University of Toronto (Canada). In 2019, she joined De Gruyter Mouton as an Acquisitions Editor. She commissions books and series in Linguistics, with a focus on Applied Linguistics, Language Acquisition, Sociolinguistics, Phonetics and Phonology, Forensic Linguistics, Language and Law, Anthropological Linguistics, Semiotics, and Communication Science, among others.
Meredith Keffer
Meredith Keffer joined De Gruyter Mouton in 2023 after ten years at Oxford University Press. She has an MA in Sociocultural Anthropology from Columbia University and a BA in Folklore and Mythology from Harvard University. She acquires books and series across several areas of Linguistics, including Generative Grammar, Language documentation, and Sociolinguistics.

Dr. Myrto Aspioti
Myrto Aspioti studied French and German at Cambridge and Oxford, and holds a DPhil in German from the University of Oxford. She joined De Gruyter as an acquisitions editor in January 2020 and is responsible for the English-language list in Literary and Cultural Studies. Elisabeth Kempf holds a PhD in Medieval English Language and Literature from the University of Berlin. In 2014, she joined De Gruyter and is currently working as Senior Acquisitions Editor for "Medieval and Early Modern Studies".
Robert Forke
Robert Forke studied German Studies, History and Political Science at Freiburg University and Yale. Since 2015 he has been pursuing his PhD in Medieval German Literature at Stanford. His dissertation investigates medieval parody as an innovative mode of expression bringing about and transforming genres.
Dr Eva Locher
Eva Locher studied German Studies and History at the University of Zurich and Leipzig. She holds a PhD in Medieval German Literature; her thesis explores the concept of coherence in medieval German Sangspruchdichtung in the 13th century.

Maxim Karagodin studied Spanish Philology, Cultural Studies and Latin American Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Free University of Berlin and the University of Havana. After conducting research for projects on the German-speaking Jewish exile in Mexico and diasporic memory work of the Chilean-American community, he joined De Gruyter in 2020 as editorial trainee. In 2021, he took on the position of Acquisitions Editor in the field of Hispanic and Latin American Studies.
Dr. Gabrielle Cornefert
Gabrielle Cornefert studied Business Management and Romance Philology in Paris, Berlin, Potsdam and Buenos Aires, before completing a PhD in Romance Studies at the University of Potsdam. She joined De Gruyter in 2016 as a Content Editor for Romance Studies. Dr. Serena Pirotta
Serena Pirotta has headed the philosophy subject area since 2017 and is the editor of many text-critical editions and commentaries, as well as the digital project Works of Philosophy and Their Reception, which she initiated. She is particularly interested in History of Philosophy, Comparative and Cross-Cultural Philosophy, Marx and Marxism, and Hannah Arendt.
Christoph Schirmer
Christoph Schirmer has been Senior Acquisitions Editor Philosophy since 2018. He enjoys managing a widely spread list, including Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy and History of Science and Technology, Metaethics, Political Philosophy, Women Philosophy, Intercultural Philosophy, Modern and Contemporary History of Philosophy. Gerhard Boomgarden
With more than 25 years’ experience in academic publishing at Harcourt Brace, Academic Press, Elsevier and Routledge (leading the social sciences lists), Gerhard Boomgaarden is editorial director of the Social Sciences. He also manages the editorial departments in Law, Linguistics and Business and Economics. He commissions books himself in Sociology, Politics and STS. Gerhard is particularly interested in interdisciplinary synergies and new electronic avenues in academia. In his spare time, he makes music and prefers to swim in cold water.
Ze'ev Sudry
Based in New York, Ze’ev Sudry previously served in editorial roles, including working on Science, Politics, and Linguistics books for Taylor & Francis/Routledge, and as lead administrator for New York University’s Master’s Program in International Relations. Ze’ev Sudry joined De Gruyter in early 2023 to build up the Social Sciences team’s presence in North America. He takes a collaborative, partnership-oriented approach to the work of publishing. Ze’ev acquires books and book series in Politics – including but not limited to the broad areas of US/American Government, International Relations & International Politics, Political Theory, and Political Science Methodology – as well as select areas in Sociology and Human & Political Geography.

Aaron Sanborn-Overby holds Master's degrees in Theological Studies and Historical Theology and studied early Christianity and Syriac. Ulrike Ruh
Ulrike Ruh has many years of strategic and commissioning experience. She has held leading positions in several specialist publishing houses, most recently at Paul Pietsch Publishers, and before that at Hatje Cantz. Since 2012 Ulrike has been program director at Birkhäuser. Ulrike holds a degree in German, Sociology and Slavic studies.

Dr. Anne Sokoll
Anne Sokoll studied German Philology, Media Studies and Political Sciences as well as German as a foreign/second language at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She heads one of the youngest imprints of the De Gruyter publishing group – düsseldorf university press (d|u|p), with focus on publishing research results of scholars from the Düsseldorf campus. Anne is also part of the editorial teams “Literary and Cultural Studies” and “Modern Languages”.

Doris Kleilein (Dipl.-Ing.) is an architect, author and editor with 25 years publishing experience in the field of architecture and urbanism. Before joining JOVIS in 2019, she was an editor of Bauwelt magazine in Berlin. In 2022 she was a research fellow at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles.
